The Moody Performing and Fine Arts Center will stand as the biggest capital project of the We Believe Campaign. The pavilion will house, among other spaces, a cafetorium, classrooms dedicated to performing and fine arts, an art gallery, offices, outdoor learning spaces, and a storm shelter (a new requirement from the City!).
St. Philip's is partnering with Building Solutions, KAI, and Hart & Gaugler and Associates on the project of the Moody Performing Arts Center.
There has been a myriad of delays regarding the kick-off of construction for this project—the first being the world pandemic, which put a hold on construction and gravely delayed securing permits needed for the building. Additionally, during the pandemic, the City of Dallas informed St. Philip's of a new requirement for new construction – an expanded storm shelter. We spent several months negotiating with the City on the size of the expanded storm shelter. This past spring, we finally settled on a feasible option that would not completely disrupt our initial building requirements.
Architects were needed to re-design the building to include this new space and to accommodate the inclusion of our current food pantry building site into the design due to our inability to secure another property adjacent to the pantry for this project. Fortunately, St. Philip's was able to purchase a building directly across the street from the current food pantry. With this purchase, we have the space required for the addition of the Moody Performing Arts Center that will now replace what is currently our Legacy parking lot, Lower and Middle School playground, and Aunt Bette's Community Pantry.
We are excited to break ground in early September for the new addition to our campus.
The building is scheduled for completion in time for Spring 2026 semester!
The We Believe Campaign continues to raise additional funds for this project. $10.4 million has been raised to bring the dream of a South Dallas Performing Arts Center into reality.
Your support for this project will aid in supporting our student body and community center youth who do not have current access to a wholistic arts program designed to incite creativity and help our students gain required skills in a specific artistic medium before matriculating to other local schools in Dallas including, for example, Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.
Through this project, hundreds of St. Philip's students will be introduced to the arts in an environment where they will discover their unique talents and giftings. Community artists and youth will see the world through the lens of music, dance, theatre, and visual arts, focusing on helping young people soar to new heights in the world of the Arts.
The Moody Performing Arts Center will interconnect the vibrancy of the artistic community throughout South Dallas as we seek transformation toward the hope Christ calls us to.
