Gwen's Garden

Gwen's Garden

About the Garden

Gwen’s Garden at St. Philip’s School & Community Center is a vibrant space where learning, service, and sustainability come together. Named in memory of Mrs. Gwendolyn Barjon, a beloved former St. Philip’s science teacher and principal, the garden honors her legacy of education, leadership, and community impact.

Students, teachers, and volunteers work together to plant and harvest fresh vegetables and herbs. This hands-on learning experience not only enriches classroom instruction but also provides nutritious produce to Aunt Bette’s Community Pantry, supporting families in South Dallas who may lack access to fresh, organic food.

Volunteer in the Garden

Keeping the garden thriving takes a team, and we invite you to be part of it! Volunteers help with planting, weeding, harvesting, and general upkeep. Whether you have a green thumb or just willing to lend a hand, your support directly impacts both our students and the surrounding community.

Volunteer days are typically the first Saturday of each month, with additional opportunities available throughout the year.
Sign up to volunteer here.

By supporting Gwen’s Garden through your time, resources and donations, you are planting seeds for learning, health, and hope that they will grow for generations to come.
