Prospective Family FAQs

Prospective Family FAQs

When do I submit the online application?

The admissions application is available each year beginning November 1st of each year. Please see the Admissions Calendar for event dates and deadlines.

At what age can my child start at St. Philip’s?

Entry level to our Early Childhood Program requires applicants to turn 3, 4 or 5 by September 1st of the enrolling year to start PreK3, PreK4 or Kindergarten.

What is the tuition, and what tuition assistance and scholarships are available?

Tuition and fee information can be found HERE. Tuition is updated in January each year and there is an expected increase of 3-5% each enrollment year.
Tuition awards and scholarships are based solely on a family’s demonstrated financial need. St. Philip’s does not provide 100% tuition assistance or scholarships.

How do I know if I qualify for tuition assistance?

To know if you qualify for tuition assistance, you must submit a Tuition Assistance Application in addition to your Admission Application.

What can I do to prepare my child for the admission process?

The admission process is designed to give the Admission Committee an overall picture of your child so that we can best determine mission-appropriate students and families. We do not encourage any form of test prep; this only skews the picture of your child and makes the assessment process more difficult. The best thing you can do is to follow the process and be mindful of dates and deadlines. We encourage you to talk to your child about the process and procedures and ask for their feedback on St. Philip’s as well. Please feel free to contact our office if you have additional questions.

Is admission to St. Philip’s guaranteed?

Admission to St. Philip’s is not guaranteed. Admissions decisions are based primarily on the composite qualifications of the individual applicant and space availability.

When will I know if my child has been accepted?

Admission decisions will be released by email on the Friday prior to Spring Break. Review our calendar for deadline information.

If my child was in the wait pool last year, do I need to reapply?

Yes, you will need to reapply, but will not be required to pay another application fee. All other admission processes must be completed again.

Does St. Philip’s accept new students during the middle of the year?

No. We are unable to accommodate new applicants once the school year begins. Applicants that are waitlisted may be contacted up to 3 weeks of the start of school if a seat becomes available.

Do you offer transportation?

We do not offer transportation at this time.

Are siblings and children of alumni guaranteed admission?

In the St. Philip’s admission process, every effort is made to accommodate qualified applicants who are siblings of currently enrolled students, children of alumni or children of full-time faculty and staff. Admission decisions are based primarily upon the composite qualifications of the individual candidate, the space available, class composition, and gender balancing.

Late Applicant Policy

Applications received after the deadline will be allowed on a space-availability basis. We understand there are family circumstances that may be unforeseen and will accommodate families as space allows. Admission decisions are released the Friday before Spring Break and enrollment is finalized two weeks later. Once a late application is complete, we will work to get it to the Admission Committee for an admission decision with best-case scenario being Wait Pool. If we are able to move to the Wait Pool, then we are able to consider anyone who has received that admission decision, regardless of if they are a late applicant or not. Our Wait Pool remains open until the third week of school. Please reach out to admissions@stphilips.com if you have any questions.

What is your student teacher ratio?

Overall ratio is approximately 9:1

What are the school hours?

School begins promptly at 8am
End time for Early Childhood & Lower School (PreK-3rd grade) – 3:30pm
End time for Middle School Prep (4th & 5th grade) – 3:45pm
End time for Middle School (6th-8th grade) – 4pm

When do students go to Chapel?

Chapel is held daily, beginning at approximately 8:20 AM.

Is your school Catholic?

No. St. Philip’s was founded in 1946 as an Episcopalian church. Although the church is no longer in existence, we are still a faith-based Christian school.

Where do your students go when they graduate?

Our students matriculate to schools that are the “best fit” for them and their family. We created a program called Life After St. Philip’s, to help families navigate Dallas’ abundant school choice, as well as understand their student’s profile (strength & areas of growth) to select the best environment. Our students have historically matriculated to other private, magnet, charter, and public schools.
